NORTHPORT | Earl Flenor Hewitt, age 88, of Northport, died September 1, 2014, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Cryptside services will be 3 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2014, at Serenity Chapel Mausoleum with Rev. George Jackson officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider directing. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was the last surviving child of Howard and Lovie Hewitt. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two infant sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Hewitt; sons, Randall Hewitt (Marsha) of Northport and Rod Hewitt (Carla) of Summerfield, N.C.; grandchildren, Chad Hewitt (Ginger) of Hoover, Dana Smith (Donnie) of Northport, Russ Hewitt (Cortney) of Ringgold, Ga., Alan Hewitt (Sarah) of Meridian, Miss., Kate McLaughlin (Evan) of Summerfield, N.C., Jessica Hewitt (Will Sartain) of Wilmington, N.C., Chelsea Mayers (Brett) of Northport; and six great-grandchildren.
Earl was raised in the Samantha community and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was married for 65 plus years and was a retiree of B.F. Goodrich.
Honorary pallbearers are past and present employees of B.F. Goodrich, doctors, nurses, and staff of DCH Regional Medical Center, and members of Nazareth Church.
