Sarah Nell Oswalt
(4 Feb 1932 - 30 Aug 2017)
Sarah Nell Oswalt Hewitt joined her heavenly father and loving husband in heaven on August 30, 2017. She was born February 4, 1932. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister and aunt to many. She loved her family the most and always took care of everyone before herself. She died peacefully at her son's home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be one prior to the service at the funeral home with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity provider, directing the service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Florence Yerby Oswalt; her loving husband, Earl Hewitt; and two brothers, Billy Neal Oswalt and Gordon Oswalt.
She is survived by two sons; Randall Hewitt (Marsha Simpson) and Rod Hewitt (Carla Golson). She has seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was survived by a sister-in-law, Carol Oswalt and aunt, Inez Williamson.
She lived each day, to serve her family. Nell loved all her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren equally, and always wanted to spend time with them. She had many cousins, nieces and nephews that she always loved and they loved her. Many people called her "Aunt Nell" or "Granny Nell" even though they might not be related.
She especially enjoyed the family stopping by the house and visiting. She has spent many hours looking at family pictures over the years and never got tired of seeing them over-and-over again. She was also known in the family for her cooking, especially coconut cakes and pound cakes. At the annual Hewitt family reunion, her cakes were always the sought-out treats.
She loved sitting on the porch and watching the traffic go by, sitting on her son's porch on lake Tuscaloosa and watching the boats go by, and she especially loved watching Alabama football through the years.
She had wonderful neighbors on 27th Avenue, in Northport that she loved and they loved her.
The family especially wants to thank EC and Nolia Mae Foster, Max and Karol Whitehead, Ricky and Linda Lancaster, and Beth Kidder for all of the years they have been friends and neighbors.
Prior to living in Northport, she was raised in the Samantha community. She always loved and cherished her childhood memories.
Honorary pallbearers are all her nieces and nephews whom she so dearly loved all her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or cemetery fund of the following churches: Campground Cemetery Association, c/o Ruth Cannon, 20530 Highway 43N, Northport, AL 35475 or Haygood Cemetery Fund, c/o Judy Swindle, 19445 Gorgas Road, Northport, AL 35475.
