Harrison H. Ivory

Harrison Ivory, 76, native of Smlthvllle, died at the Mercy hospital about 9:30 this morning, where he had been a patient for the past twelve weeks. Mr. Ivory had been living on Franklin street for sometime before he was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was suffering from complication of diseases and heart trouble. Mr. Ivory was born ln Smithvllle, a son of the late Chaotlis and Julia Ivory. His father waa a farmer In Smithvllle. He obtained his education ln the schools near his home and after completing his education he began farming. He continued to operate a farm until about three years ago, when his health failed and he came to this city to live. Mr. Ivory was married twice. His first wife was Miss Emma Jones, Smithville. She was a daughter of pioneer settlers of that village. Her father was a prominent farmer in the village. One daughter, the late Miss Jessie Ivory of New York city, was born by the union. She was an artist in New York and died there several years ago. His second wife was Miss Abbie Seeley, also a native of Smithville. Two children were born by the second onion. They are a son, Allen
and a daughter, Miss Ruby Ivory who has charge of a hospital in Winnedago. Wis. His second wife died several years ago. He is survived by two children Allen and Ruby Ivory; two brothers Theodore Ivory of Smithville and DeWitt C. Ivory of Adams Center.

1850 U.S. Census New York, Jefferson County, Henderson. Harrison is one year old, living with his parents, siblings, and Ivory grandparents on the original family farm.

1870 U.S. Census Henderson, Jefferson County New York, page 33. Stratton, Theodore and Harrison H. Ivory are all living on adjoining farms. Harrison is 21 years old, and as such, is head of household. His real estate is worth $10400 and personal property worth $1200. His mother, Julia, age 55, lives with him as do his two brothers, Franklin, age 32, and John W., age 29. The family also has a servant girl named Minnie Hurd, age 19.

In 1900 Addie keeps a boarding house in Watertown. Harrison has no work listed. [From his obituary it is known he owned his farm well into the 1920's.]

In 1910 Harrison is living by himself with his sister Emeline's family in Henderson.
