Miss Jessie Ivory, a native of Smithville and former resident of Adams and Watertown, passed away Monday evening at the residence of her cousin, Dr. George P. Manville. 245 Abingdon road, Kin Garden, L.I., aged about 49 years. She expired following a brief Illness due to heart disease. Miss Ivory was born In 1872 in Smithville, daughter of Harrison and Emma Jane Ivory. Her mother passed away when she was 12 years of age and she went to Adams to live with an Uncle and Aunt, Dr and Mrs MD Mandville. At the age of 18 Miss Pratt took up an arts course at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Being endowed with a talent for things artistic she gained great success in her chosen field. She came to Watertown about 20 years ago and resided here for a time with her cousin. Mrs. Dora I Englehart. She established class In arts while here, having a studio at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Solon H. Wilder which was then located at 122 Benedict street. She had many friends here and there are many examples of her work In oil paintings and decorated china In homes in this city, prized highly by their possessors. In .order to have tbe advantages in
the study of art offered in tbe metropolis she later returned to New York city where she took up silk designing
and interior decorating, having a studio on Columbus circle. She had many friends in Adams, Watertown and New York city. She had gained high recognition In her art and when President Harding took up his residence in the White
House she sent three exquisitely done lamp shades to Washington for use In the White House. Surviving are her father, Harrison Ivory of Smithvllle, her aunt, Mrs. Marcus Manville and her cousin. Dr. George P. Manville, a dentist, both of Kin Garden, L. I., a half- sister, Miss Ruby Ivory of New York city, and the two cousins residing in this city, Mrs. William E. Murray and Mrs. Dora Eaglshart.
The remains will be taken to Adams for Interment In the family plot.
