Individual Details

Andreas Kostas Kostakos

(1809 - Abt 1887)

Somehow on FamilySearch Family Tree, "Theodoros" was listed as Andreas' father's name??? It had my name next to the year 1815, but I have no record of this. And there is no Theodoros in the Kostakos family names. ID#: L8WZ-7HS.

In the 1873 Election lists, Agios Ioannis, Line 1841, Andreas' last name is spelled Konstakos. Surnames Konstakos and Kostakos could be the same name; derivative of Konstantinos or Kostandinos
Gregory Kontos believes that the name Konstakos and Kostakos are the same name.

1. Andrew had two wives. He had six sons by his first wife. Gregory and Demetrios are on the family group records. Verified by Pauline Kourabas, Andrew Kostakos, Beatrice Kourabas Douvres.
One went to Egypt. Another was working in a winery as a young man when a friend dared him to drink all the wine he could. The wine was being fermented and it killed him.
The other 3 sons' names and whereabouts are unknown. (Information from Carol's father, Andrew John Kostakos).

2. Andrew's second marriage to Poletimi is documented in these records.

Areti Kostakos Lambrinos discussion with Carol Petranek, Aug. 2, 2003. Areti said that he came from "Pyrgos over the big mountains", looking for work. There are several "Pyrgos" - the closest to Sparta were Pyrgos, Kalamon (Messinia) and Pyrgos, Ileias. From Areti Kostakos Lambrinos discussion with Carol Petranek, Aug. 2, 2003.

However, during our visit to Greece in 1996, cousin Panos Kostakos said "all the Kostakos' are from Anavriti."

The 1844 Election List (see birth 1809 notes) proves that Andreas was indigenous, meaning he was a resident of Agios Ioannis from the creation of the state after the 1821 Revolution. Perhaps his father was from Pyrgos?

Andreas' father's name was Kostas, as given in documentation by Aris Poulimenakos to Carol Kostakos Petranek (see Kostas' profile)

Named as father of Afroditi on her marriage record.
In July, 2014 Carol Petranek went to the Metropolis and the Greek Archives in Sparta with Gregory Kontos. Gregory said we can be sure the "A" stands for Andreas.

Initial of first name from School Archive record of son, Dimitrios - 1856, he was a landowner in Sparta.
