Georgios Andreas Kostakos or Kostakis

(1846 - )

Georgios' great-granddaughter, Maria Kostakis to Carol Petranek, June 2, 2018: Georgios' great-great granddaughter, Maria Kostakis met Carol Kostakos Petranek in Sparta, Greece. Maria said the family originated in Crete and had roots in Kotronas, and from there went to Sparta. Georgios left Agios Ioannis and went to Aigion, but she did not say why.

From Eleni Kostakos, July 2016 at her home in Agios Ioannis;
Georgios Kostakos accidentally injured one of his sisters and she lost an eye. He left the village and he went Aigion near Patras. He changed the spelling of his name to Kostakis. His descendants still live there and occasionally would visit Agios Ioannis. [At first, Eleni said it was Andreas who was in this story, but when I met Maria Kostakis, it was Georgios who left Agios Ioannis.]
Andreas a [grand]son of the first Andreas and his wife would visit Agios Ioannis. That Andreas had 4 sisters. Andreas Kostakis is married to Panagoula and they have two daughters who are in the photo. Andreas has four sisters and I think that their father's name was Michalis. So, in the photo we have: Andreas and Panagoula,their two daughters with their husbands, my parents and Grigorios Georgios Kostakos with his wife Ioanna. I am sending you a photo of my discovery and aphoto, the only one I have, of Andreas Kostakis. It was taken in 1998 at the marriage of his second daughter. Standing are the bride, uncle Andreas, my parents and the groom. Seated are Aunt Ioanna, uncle Gregory, Andreas' wife Panagoula, their other son in law and their eldest daughter. It's my uncle that has four sisters.
What we know is that his grandfather Andreas injured his sister by mistake and was so upset that he left the family and changed his name. Now, grandfather Andreas must have been my great grandfather's Gregory brother because I am told that uncle Andreas is second cousin to my father, and uncle Gregory of course.

October 6, 2016 – sent Panorea an email to try to get more details on this story and figure out who these people are. Panorea responded,and sent a photo (in Kostakis, Andreas file):

Gregory Kontos believes that the name Konstakos and Kostakos are the same name.

Line #1749, 1872 Electoral Rolls of Agios Ioannis, Sparta, Laconia: Georgios Konstakos, age 26; occupation: servant; father: Andreas.
ASSUMPTION: Andreas is Georgios' father, per the following logic:
In 1872, Andreas was age 57 and Georgios was age 26. That would make Andreas age 31 when Georgios was born. No other Konstakos family is in Ag. Ioannis at this time.
