Obituary June 10, 1927 in The Madisonian says: "Mrs. A. J. McDowell of McAllister passed away Saturday night after many weeks' suffering.Mrs. McDowell was one of the most highly respected citizens of the valley. She, with her husband and family, had resided many years on their ranch near McAllister. Mrs. McDowell had been in failing health for some months, but the last few weeks she became worse. All that medical skill and loving care could do was done, but all was in vain. She leaves to mourn her death one daughter, Mrs. William Fletcher, and three sons Harold, Morris and Lewis McDowell, all of McAllister and her loving husband, A. J. McDowell. The funeral was held Monday at two o'clock and interment made in the McAllister cemetery."
