NAME CHANGE:
According to Margaret Staberg Splitter, Ole's granddaughter, he changed his name to "Staberg" from the longer "Stageberg" in 1902.

DEATH:
"ANOTHER PIONEER PASSES; In the death of Ole Staberg which occurred at the family home on North Fifth Street Monday evening, after a five months' illness, this village again loses one of its highly respected pioneer
residents.
Mr. Staberg was born June 30, 1863 at Tronjhelm, Norway and at the age of 18 years he came to America and direct to Lakeland, Minn., where he was employed at saw mill work until 1899 when the family came to our village which has been their home ever since. Here Mr. Staberg also found employment in the lumber industry. For the past seven years he has been store keeper for the Omaha railway at its Hudson shops.
Mr. Staberg married August 2, 1889 to the then Miss Julia Anderson at Fargo, N.D. Surviving him are the son, James of St. Paul, and the three daughters, the Misses Bernice, Ruth and Ethel who all reside at home. The wife died October 4, 1901."

"ATTENDED FUNERAL; The following from out of town attended the Ole Staberg funeral held Thursday of last week; Dan Staberg of Long Prairie, Minn., George Staberg of Minneapolis, Miss Evelyn Staberg and Alfred Staberg of St. Paul, Miss Esther Fladby and Emil Fladby of Wahpeton, N.D., John Ovick and Arthur Ovick of Mora, Minn., Miss Zoe Brownell and Miss Martha Hansen of St. Paul, Carroll Brandt of Star Prairie, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. John Staberg, Mr. and Mrs. John Engstrom, Andrew Staberg, and Joe Staberg all of Hudson, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. John Staberg, Mr. and Mrs. Dahl, Mrs. Louis Peteron and Mrs. Andrew Nelson all of Lakeland, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Thompson of River Falls, Wis.

Ole Staberg
Ole Staberg of Bayport died at his home on Monday, Jan. 19, 1925, at the age of sixty-one years. He was employed at the Hudson shops for a number of years.
Mr. Staberg leaves to mourn his passing, his son James and daughters, Bernie, Ruth and Ethel to whom he has been both father and mother since the death of his beloved wife some twenty-four years ago.
His brother, Andrew Staberg of Hudson, nephews Joe and John Staberg, John Engstrom, Mrs. John Engstrom and Mrs. John Stayberg attended the funeral at Bayport on Thursday, Jan. 22, and the burial at Lakeland cemetery. Mr. Orvik of Mora, Minn., a brother-in-law, and other relatives from Minnesota attended the funeral.
