John Aavik also went by Peter Aavik and by John Ovik. His death certificate gives his name as John Aavik as does his obituary published in the Kanabeck County Times. On his wife Karen's death certificate he is John Ovik, and within the family, it seems he was called Peter.

Andrew Staberg of this city and Mr. and Mrs. John Staberg of Lakeland attended the funeral of their brother, Peter, who was buried at Grasston, Minn. on Tuesday of last week.

Aged Man dies at Home of Sister in Comfort
John Aavik died July 24 at the age of 78 years, at the home of his sister, in Comfort township.
He was born in Norway in 1848, and upon coming to this country located in Polk county, where he remained for 47 years. After the death of his wife he came to this county and made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ovick in Comfort township.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Grasston Lutheran Church, Rev. N. Wm. Anderson officiating. Interment was in Grasston Cemetery.

Janssen Aavig personally appeared before the subscriber, the Clerk of the District Count of the Eleventh Judicial District for the State of Minnesota, being a Court of Record, and made oath that he was born in Norway on or about the year eighteen hundred and forty-eight, that he emigrated to the United States, and landed at the port of New York on or about the month of April in the year eighteen hundred and seventy-eight, that it is bona fide his intention to become A Citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any Foreign Price, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to the King of Sweden and Norway whereof he is a subject.
