In our emigrant records, we find listed that this family left Trondheim with destination Zumbrota, Minn., September 8, 1881: Peter Aavig, aged 25, from Nedre Stjordal, his wife Ingeborg, aged 26, their children Yngvar, aged 4, Ida,aged 2 1/2, and Bernt, aged 1/2. Together with them, and with the same destination went Ole I. Stageberg, aged 19, from Nedre Stjordal.
The bachelor and railway worker Peter Eliassen, born April 24, 1858 at Aavig in Asen, living at Hembre, and the maiden Ingeborg Jonsdatter, born June 2, 1852 at Sonbjorg, Stagaberg, got married in the church of Hegra in the parish of Ovre Stjordal, October 19, 1877. His father was Elias Guttormsen Aavig from Asen, her father was Jon Pedersen Sonbjorg.
"Peter", the son of the tenant farmer Elias Guttormsen and wife Peternella Larsdtr., Aavikvalet, was born April 24, 1858 and was baptized June 6, the same year in the church of Asen in the parish of Frosta.
"Ingeborg", the daughter of John Pedersen Sonbjoren and wife Berit Andersdatter, was born June 2, 1852 and baptized in the church of Hegra July 11, the same year.

"My grandfather was Peter E. Ovick. Note the name was changed from Norway. Originally it was Peter E. AAVIG and was changed to OVIK when he came to Minnesota, and then my dad added the "C" to make it OVICK.
Peter E. Ovick was born April 24, 1858 at Aavig in Asen Norway; he left Norway, Trondheim, Sept. 8, 1881, from Nodre Stjordal where he lived.
Peter's wife was Ingeborg Jonsdatter. Ingeborg was the daughter of John Pedersen Sonbjorgen and her mother was Berit Andersdatter (born June 2, 1852 and baptized at the church at Hegra in July 1852).

Mrs. Peter Ovik of Comfort Town is Called Beyond
Injury Suffered in Fall Proves Fatal to Well Known Resident of County
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, August 25, for Mrs. Peter Ovik of Comfort Township. The rites were held at the home at 1 o'clock and from the Grasston Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock. Interment was in the Grasston Union Cemetery. Rev. J.J. Dahle, of Grantsburg, Wis., conducted the services at the home, and at the church Rev. C. A. Odahl was in charge, assisted by Rev. Dahle. Vocal numbers were rendered by Mrs. John Olson, Mrs. Sigurd Strand and Miss Myrtle Swan. The accompanist was Mrs. L. N. Butler.
The honary pallbearers were Mmes. A. Tralstad, John Olson, G. Gilbertson and Peter Tellosson. The active pallbearers were grandsons, Conrad, Morris, Melford, Alfred and Robert Ovik and Johnny Danielson.
Mrs. Ovik fell in her home Monday evening, August 16, breaking her hip. The following morning she was taken to the Braham hospital, but finding that no medical aid could help her, she was taken home and it was here that she passed away on Saturday afternoon, August 21, at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 19 days.
Ingeborg Ovik was born on the 2nd of June, 1852, in Trongem, Norway. Here she grew up to young womanhood and on October 19, 1877 she was married to Mr. Peter Ovik. They came to this county, to Goodhue county, Minnesota in 1880. On the 20th of May 1903, they moved to the township of Comfort, Kanabec county, where they have since made their home. Mr. Ovik passed away on June 9, 1935. To the Ovik union were born 14 children; survivng are four daughters and eight sons. They are Lillie, Segurd, Emil, Albert and Bernard, all at home; Mrs. Dan Danielson (Ida), Engmar and Arthur, all of Comfort township; Mrs. Hilmer Hefte (Clara) of Braham, Minn.; Louis of Hinkley, Minn.; Victor of Pine City, Minn.; and Mrs. Elmer Knutson (Inga) of Montevideo, Minn. Also two brothers, Andrew Stageborg of Hudson, Wisc., and John Stageborg of Lakeland, Minn.; also 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
