Death
Death Entered Two Homes in the Past WeekMrs. Cornelia Juilfs and Mrs. William Meyers among those Called.
Passing of Mrs. Cornelia Juilfs.
The sudden death of Mrs. Etta Cornelia Juilfs occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Schmidt, in Monticello last Monday morning shortly before 8 o'clock. Mrs. Schmidt went to call her mother for breakfast, and found that she had expired a short time before. Her death is attributed to a sudden heart attack. She had been in excellent health up until the time of her demise.
Mrs. Juilfs was born at Witmund, Ostfriesland, Germany, June 4, 1856. She was a daughter of the late Cornelius and Etta Eiben, and was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Wittmund. She was also married in the same town May 11, 1879, to John Juilfs. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Juilfs lived on a farm near Wittmund for thirteen years. They emigrated to the United States March 29, 1892. They first settled on the Charles Brown farm on Bowen's Prairie, where they lived for one season, and thereafter lived on farms near Sand Spring, in Castle Grove township, near the town of Amber, and finally for seventeen years on what was then known as the John Calhoun farm near Onslow. This farm is still owned by the family. Mr. and Mrs. Juilfs retired from active farm work, and came to Monticello to live In 1920, in their home situated south of the Reformed church, and which was formerly known, as the Prader property. Mr. Juilfs passed away June 7, 1927, following a severe Illness of heart trouble.
Mrs. Juilfs is survived by the following children: Henry of Monticello, William of Longmont, Colo., Mrs. Lizzie Schmidt of Monticello, and Garrett of Monticello, and also by eighteen grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10:15 o'clock at the family home and at 10:30 at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church. The services will be in charge of Mrs. Juilfs' pastor, Rev. H. L. Adix, who will speak in the German language. A short talk in the English language will be given by Rev. John Willms, a former pastor of Mrs. Juilfs. Interment services will be held at Oakwood cemetery following those at the church, and Mrs. Juilfs' body will be laid to rest by the side of her husband.
