Death
The death of John Juilfs.Monticello friends will be pained to learn that John Juilfs died at his home this morning at 2 o'clock. He had been in ill health since March 15, when he suffered a partial stroke of paralysis. His health gradually declined, and severe heart trouble developed. His family deemed it best that he be taken to the hospital, where he might be given the best of care. After ten days' treatment he was returned to his home. Throughout his illness he was tenderly cared for by his wife and children.
Mr. Juilfs was born August 9, 1853, at Blersun, Hanover, Germany. He was a son of the late Henry and Elizabeth Juilfs. He was baptized in the town of his birth, and confirmed in the Lutheran church in an adjoining town in Germany. He was married to Etta Iben, May 11, 1879, at Wittmund, Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Juilfs emigrated to the United States in March 1892. They first came to Monticello, and thereafter lived on farms near Sand Spring, in Castle Grove township, near Amber, and finally near Onslow. Seventeen years of their wedded life was spent on the Onslow farm. Mr. and Mrs. Juilfs retired from active farm life seven years ago, and came to Monticello, where they bought the Prader property.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Juilfs is survived by the following children: Henry, of Monticello; William, of Bethune, Colorado; Mrs. Lizzie Schmidt, of Monticello, and Gerhard Juilfs of Anamosa. The funeral services will be held next Sunday afternoon, and will be in charge of Rev. H. L. Adix, pastor of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Short services will be held at the homo, and thereafter at St. Matthew's church. Interment will be made at Oakwood cemetery.
