Mrtha L. Hughes married about 1850 to Thomas N. Dobbs. They had children: Sarah L. Dobbs, born about 1851, James R. Dobbs, born about 1853, and William T. Dobbs, born about 1859.
In "Lauderdale County, Mississippi, 1853 State Census", is listed T. N. Dobbs, one male, 2 females, total of 3. This is probably Thomas and Martha and little daughter .
There is also listed in 1853 Lauderdale County Census a Josiah Dobbs, one male, one female, for a total of 2. Also listed is a William C. Dobbs, 2 males, 3 females, a total of 5. There is also a Tyra D. Dobbs, 2 males, one female, total of 3. These may be relatives of Thomas N. Dobbs.
Apparently Thomas and Martha moved to Smith County, Miss after 1853 and before 1860.
In 1860 Census, Miss., Smith County, are listed - Dobbs, Thomas N. 30, farmer born Tenn; Martha 28, born Miss; Sarah L. 9; James R. 7; and William T. 6 mos.
Apparently Thomas Dobbs died around 1865 and Martha remarried circ 1867 to James Kelly.
In 1870 Census, Miss., Smith County, they are listed - Kelly, James 35 farmer born Miss., Martha 38 keeping house born Ala., and daughter Frances F. 2 born Miss. Also listed are Martha's children Dobbs, James R. 15, born Miss, William T. 10, born Miss, and Ellen T. 8 (fem), born Miss. Apparently Sarah Dobbs, the oldest child 19, has married.
Living nearby in 1870 are John Kelly 33 (born circ 1837, Miss.) and his little family, and he may be a brother to James Kelly.
There is also on same page 1870 Census, Anna Kelly 61 born SC circ 1809 (who may be the mother of James and John), with: Effie 36, Laughlin 30, Matilda 26, Manervia 26, Edward 23, Duncan 21, and Ellen 16, all born in Miss. Anna Kelly could be the mother of James Kelly, and the others could be James' sibblings.
In 1880 Census, Miss, Smith County, James Kelly, wife Matty, daughter Frances, son Daniel, son Gus?, and Matty's Dobbs children William? and Ellie.
Martha Lavinia Hughes Dobbs Kelly died December 15, 1899 in Smith County, Miss, and is buried in Smith County.
