Individual Details
Thomas F "Tom" Condon
(15 Aug 1886 - 1960)
Didn't marry; worked as a hired man. WWI vet. Died in late 1960's.Died at the State Hospital in Willmar.
===================
I am curious about Tom. I cannot find the reported death records of him dying in Willmar in 1960's at state hospital. He may have spent some time in this hospital as it was originally for alcoholics and it is said that he drank heavily, at times anyway. I am mostly convinced that he did not die in Minnesota. There are stories that he went to Iowa after a girl friend that he found had already married and was heartbroken taking up drinking after that. He was at home in 1905 age 19. But he was not at home in 1910. He was in Ramsey ND in 1918, age 32 as indicated on his WWI draft card. And he is in St Cloud with the family in 1920, age 34. He was mentioned in sister Margaret's obit as living in Maple Plain, MN in 1939 as was brother James. He was not mentioned in Vincent's obit in 1965. There is a story that he visited St Cloud in 1953. I didn't find him with James in 1930 or 1940.
His name was Thomas Francis Condon. It was said he worked labor jobs. He may have gone by Thomas, Tom, Frank. He was born in Louriston twp of Chippewa County, but his birth was not recorded. His baptism was recorded at St Bridget's Catholic church in DeGraff. He was the 2nd child, eldest son, of Thomas Francis Condon and Nora Josephine Hubbert. On his WWI draft card he gives 15 August 1886 for birthdate. Although Betty Condon said he was in the army in WWI, I can't find a record of his service.
It is said that he wasn't around or didn't come forth at he time of his father's death to receive his inheritance of $4000 which was put in brother John's care. Also at his death the remaining brothers divided up the remains of his estate, so they must have known that he died and probably where.
============================
His WWI Draft card was completed in ND. There is a notation on it to send the questions to his father. Apparently he did not know the answers to some of the questions.

Thomas was the oldest boy in the family and he left home at the age of 17. Tom died in the late 1960's at the Willmar State Hospital in either the mental or alcoholic ward. Tom was a single person and worked as a hired man. He was in the army in WW1. Tom came back to to the St. Cloud area in 1953. Tom had a girlfriend and she moved to Iowa. Tom followed her and found out she had already married and this broke his heart. He began to drink heavily. Tom was a short, heavy person. He is remembered to play the violin at dances when he was a kid.
Tom Jr. received $4000 from his father but was not in the area at the time and did not come forth to receive it so his younger brother John Condon was responsible to invest this in his name. In the late 1936-1938 era the estate had reached $10,000. At Tom Jr.'s death his remaining siblings shared his estate.

Notes
Birth
I couldn't find a record of birth in the Chippewa courthouse for Thomas, Annie Josephine, Ellen or William,================
His WWI Draft card lists 15 Aug 1886 in Louriston twp, Chippewa County, MN for his birth date

Death
15 Aug 2019- I checked with county records in Chippewa County, Montevideo, MN and Kandiyohi County, Willmar, MN and could not find a death record for him. The lady at Willmar even called the state to see if he was recorded in a different county. They could not find a record of him in the state of Minnesota either. I checked the cemetery records for the Willmar hospital were it was thought that he died and they do not have a record of him being buried there. There are no records of him being buried in the Catholic cemetery in Willmar.I do not think he died in Minnesota.
There are some stories that he followed a girl friend to Iowa. And he did work in North Dakota before WWI as he registered for the WWI draft from there. I can not yet find a military record of him serving in WWI.
The hospital in Willmar was first started as a hospital for alcoholics and later added facilitirs for the mentally ill. There are stories that his girlfriend in Iowa married someone else and he started drinking heavily so he may at one time been in the Willmar hospital for that.
