E. P. McADAMS was born in Hawesville, Hancock County, KY, July 23, 1847. His parents were G. W. and Dorcas (Comstock) McAdams, natives of Harrison Co Ind. and Ohio Co KY respectively. His ancestors on the father's side were of German descent, and early residents of Kentucky, Nelson Co. G. W. McAdams was born in 1817. He came to KY in his early manhood and resided in Jefferson Co a number of years. He subsequently moved to Hancock, where he married, and where he lived until 1882, at which time he went to Louisville, his present home. His wife, the subject's mother, died in 1861 aged about 47 or 48 years. The family of G. W. and Dorcas McAdams consisted of seven children, four of whom are now living: Josephine, Hester, E. P. and S. L. E. P. McAdams was reared in Hawesville. His early education was received in the school of the town. At the age of 16, he entered Notre Dame College, South Bend, Ind. which he attended one year, and subsequently became a student at Washington & Lee College at Lexington which he attended the same length of time. After quitting school, he returned to Hawesville, and engaged in the tobacco business as superintendent for his father, who was one of the most extensive and successful tobacco dealers on the river. He remained in the above capacity until 1874, at which time he was elected circuit clerk of Hancock Co, which office he still holds, having been re-elected in 1880. Mr. McAdams was married December 19, 1869, to Miss Mary L., duaghter of John and Theresa Pope, of Arkansas, and granddaughter of the ex-Governor John Pope of that State. Seven children have been born to this union, viz.: Marie Louise, George W., John P., Lena B., Samuel L., Robert T. and Albert E. Mr. McAdams is a member of the I.O.O.F., K. of H. and Independent in politics.

Dead at Hawesville
Eugene McAdams, for many years circuit clerk of Hancock County, KY., died Wednesday in Hawesville of diabetes. For seventeen years he was in the U.S. secret service with headquarters in Birmingham, Ala., and held the latter position at his death. He was 69 years old.

Former Local Revenue Man and Prominent Citizen Passes Away
Hawesville, KY, april 6 - Eugene P. McAdams died here at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. C. Kelly, yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock after three days' confinement in the last stages of diabetes. Monday he was taken with convulsions and soon lost consciousness. He was 69 years old and was born and reared here and was the elder of two sons of the late G. W. McAdams, who was for many years the principal tobacco buyer of Hawesville and at one time a member of the Kentucky legislature. He was educated at Notre Dame, Ind., and at Washington and Lee Universities. He was circuit clerk of Hancock County for three terms, or eighter years succeeding 1872, and was county clerk one term. Then he became deputy internal revenue collector under John Feland of Owensboro.
When McKinley was elected president he was named as a secret service man in charge of the Birmingham, ala. district and he held that place with high credit to himself for 17 years, or until April 1 of this year. When President Wilson was inaugurated he tendered his resignation but it was declined by the department with a letter of high commendation that spoke in unstinted terms of his efficiency and his indispensableness.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Newman and Mrs. Hester Taylor of Louisville, and one brother, Sam McAdams of New York; three daughters, Mrs. W. C. Kelly and Mrs. Louise Adair of Hawesville and Mrs. Ed Hinkle of Cleveland; and four sons, Pope McAdams of Louisville, Lieutenant John P. McAdams of Arizona, Robert McAdams of Florida and Sam McAdams of Iowa. The daughters were here at his bedside when he died as Pope McAdams, and Lt McAdams arrived Wednesday.
When 20 years of age, Mr. McAdams was married to Miss Mary Pope of Owensboro. His wife died in that city while he was engaged in the revenue service in 1891.
The funeral will be conducted from the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning with services by Re. S. J. Mensa, local pastor, assisted by Rev. Celestine Brey, of Louisville. The interment will take place in the Catholic Cemetery.
