Individual Details

Nathan Knight Pippin

(9 Apr 1842 - 7 Sep 1901)

Nathan's mother Talitha Mayo is said to have been born 11 Jul 1790. There is no marriage record but the first child, Bethinea was born Apr 1812; Talitha would have been age 22. Nathan is recorded as born Apr 9 1842; Talitha would have been age 52 and there was another child born in 1845 when she was age 55. This seems rather noteworthy. Talitha was named in Joseph John's will dated 1851 so she appears to have been the only wife.

Nathan served in the Civil War, enlisting in Company A, 1st NC Infantry at Tarboro on 22 Jul 1861. He participated in the Battle of Big Bethel and returned to NC and was disbanded. He then served in Company I, 7th Confederate Cavalry & was captured 27 Dec 1864 at Hamilton NC and was a prisoner of ward until his release at Point Lookout, MD 16 Jun 1865.
