James Spencer Pippin

On February 23, 1861, the 26-year old married 24-year old Susan F. Mabry, daughter of Charles F. Mabry and his (2nd) wife, Penelope Bryan.
When Civil War broke out, James Spencer Pippen and 6 of his brothers enlisted with the CSA. James (found as Spencer James Pippen on records), served as a private with the 7th Regiment.
The couple were planters in Edgecombe County and would become parents to 3 known childen: Adah Mayo Pippen (1852), who married Dr. Henry Turner Bass; Annie Bryan Pippen (1866), who married Francis Little Battle Dancy; and Susan Mabry Pippen (1870-1891), who died at age 21.
James was widowed in 1878 when his bride of 17 years passed young at the age of 41. He, sadly, would die 2 years later at the age of 45, leaving 3 minor-aged children orphaned.
