John Asbell

(Abt 1790 - Abt 1864)

Marilee Wirkkala gives other children to John and Jane (Noland) Asbill, but Delmar Asbill states that census records consistently show that they had only one child that survived. Charles Asbell was suggested as a son, but he's a son of John's brother Ross. The Mary Ann "Polly" Asbell that married a Miller Johnson has been suggested as a daughter - but this idea may come from a misreading of a partially destoryed marriage record. Delmar Asbill's census annotations explain this confusion.

Richard Morton was bondsman for the marriage to Jane Noland.

1820 Madison Co KY Census; p.128:
John Asbell: 1m -10; 2m 16-26; 1m 26-45; 1f 10-16; 1f 16-26
There was also a John Asbell in Estil Co with even more children:
1m 10-16, 2 m 16-18 and 2m 16-26 [could be same boys] and 1m over age 45 [older than this John] Females were: 1f 10-16 and 1f over age 45.

1830 Madison Co, p.93
John Asbell: 1m 10-16 [age of Thomas Jefferson], 1m 30-40 [John]; 1f 30-40 [Jane]
[This census does not allow for other children in this family]

Not found in 1840. This is the year many of these families were on the move.

1850 Cove Creek Twp, Washington Co AR. Thomas Asbell age 34, and family. John age 60, b. NC and Jane age 64, b. KY were living with Thomas.
