Rev. John Buell
(17 Feb 1671/72 - 22 Apr 1746)
John was the son of Samuel Buell & Deborah Griswold. On November 20, 1695 in Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut, he married Mary Loomis. To this union, 13 children were born.
Known as Deacon John Buell, he moved to Lebanon, Connecticut, in about 1695 and then in 1721, to Litchfield. He was one of the first settlers there. John Buell was a selectman in 1717 and 1718. With many others, he petitioned the General Assembly at Hartford in 1719 for the right to establish the new town of Litchfield. In September 1738, the proprietors of the new town of Goshen met in the home of John Buell to organize the town.
