Edward, or Edwin's, name is a puzzle. The 1880 Census has Edward F. Allen, age 11. On his marriage certificate he is listed as E. F. Allen. On the Marriage Register from Polk Co, he is listed as Edwin F. Allen. The 1900 census has Edwin F. Allen. His death certificate has Edward Franklin; his father's obit has just Ed.

Descendants of Ed believe his name was Edward Franklin, rather than Edwin.

Copy of marriage Certificate from Patty Sweet. E. F. Allen of Cove, Polk Co, AR, aged 21, married Miss G. A. Trotter, age 16 on 24 Oct 1890. Elder John P. Foster MG, officiated and the marriage is recorded in Book D, p.54.

Marriage records on FamilySearch list her father as George Trotter, Allen's as Port Allen.

Ed Allen married (2) Sarah E. "Lizzie" Langham, and had several more children. Listed as EDWARD Franklin Allen in CA Death Index; also says he was born in IN but that's certainly incorrect.

1910 Census: Leflore Co OK, Kennady Twp. Edward O. Allen, head of household age 40, married twice, the second time for 8 years. Sarah E. wife, age 38, also married twice. She has had 7 children, only 3 living. Millie Ann, age 6, Mamie, age 4, Johnie, age 1. Alvin, age 16 and Minnie age 14. Hammit Stidman age 13 is a stepson, surely a son of Sarah E.'s first marriage. C. M. Kimble, hired man, age 50, is living with the family. Charlie H. Allen, brother, age 37 is also in the household. Edward, Alvin, Hammit Stidman, C. M. Kimble & Charlie Allen all work at the saw mill.

1920 Census: Leflore Co OK. Edward F. Allen, age 51, b. AR as were both his parents. Occupation was sawyer at the saw mill. Sarah E., wife, age 34, b. TX as were both her parents. Millie A., dau, age 18, b. OK - her mother said b. TX so she may be the eldest child of Sarah & Edward. Minnie J. age 13. John E. age 12.

The Death Certificate has the name as Edward Franklin Allen. Widower. Born 16 May 1869 and died 18 Jul 1953. Father: Porter B. Allen, born Indiana (he wasn't - he was born in Polk Co AR). Mother: Mary Dinnigan, born Texas. The informant was Alvin Allen. Ed died in French Camp, San Joaquin Co, California, at the San Joaquin General Hospital. Ed's last residence was in Clements. He was buried in the Jackson City Cemetery on 21 July 1953; funeral home was J. J. Daneri and Son. Cause of death was large bowel obstruction; probably carcinoma; there had been an operation on 15 July.

An Edwin Allen is noted as buried Jackson City Cemetery, Amador Co, CA - has no marker but in cemetery records.
