Called Earnest in 1870, he was J. E. in the 1880 census. His name may have been James Earnest, although databases of descendants give his name as James Ennis and there is evidence the given name Ennis is used elsewhere in the Dixon family. I found this marriage: James E. Dixon to Harriet M. Worsham, 31 Jul 1885, Sherman, Grayson Co, TX.
I believe Harriet was a widow with at least two young sons when they married. She was his first cousin.

Texas Death Certificate #9043. Jas. Ennis Dixon died of pulmonary tuberculosis, 7 Mar 1924 at Whitewright, Grayson Co, TX. He was born 5 Jan 1864 and was married. His parents listed as Jack Dixon, born Missouri, and Annie Ricketts, born Tennessee. J. H. Dixon of Whitewright was the informant. Buried Pilot Grove Cemetery on the 8th of March.
