Lionel "Linah" Mims

(Ca 1684 - Ca 1732)

Lineal Mims & Anne Martin marryed ye 2d Jany., 1706-7. (St. Peter’s Parish Register)

Lionel purchased 100 acres on Tuckahoe Creek in Henrico Co., bounded by the creek and Michael Johnson from Thomas Mims, his brother, for L5 on July 4 1718. Bouth Napier sold the 100 acres "being land formerly of Lyonell Mims and remaining part of Thomas Mims patent on Tuckahoe Creek.” in Feb 1729.

Lionel Mims sold 358 acres in March 1733 on upper Licking Hole Creek in St. James Parish bounded by John Mims for L40 to David Mims, witnessed by John Mims. Lionel most likely removed from Goochland Co. after selling his property in 1733, relocating to Bertie County, NC (Edgecombe was formed in 1741 from Bertie Co.).

In 1736 Lionel is mentioned with his son Robert in a Bertie Co. deed, where they witnessed a deed between John Bobbit and Barbara Melton. John Bobbitt to Barraby Melton May 1, 1736 30 pds for 300 a. on NS Maratuck River adj. Hezekiah Massies dec'd "on side of Oconetchy swamp" part of tract granted to John Bobbit by patent for 600 a. dated Mar 1, 1719. Wit: Henry Horne, Robert Mims, Lioner Mims. May Court 1736 (Bertie Co Deed Book D p266).

Names of Lionel's children as shown here do not have a great deal of proof, as he apparently left no will and no estate settlement has been found.
