In 1748, the Bladen Co NC tobacco tax petition shows that Thomas Mims lived in Bladen County NC from 1763-1786. In 1763, he was taxed on himself and 2 slaves. In April 1767, Thomas received a patent on 50 acres in Bladen County on Welch's creek on the east side of White Marsh Swamp at a point opposite the mouth of Bridge Branch. His land was mentioned in 3 other patents during 1767. Thomas and his son David were listed together in the 1768 tax lists, but they were listed separately in 1770 and 1771. On Feb 4 1772, Thomas and Grace sold 100 acres on White Marsh to William Barefutt (Barefoot) for L5. Their son David was a witness to the deed. One day later on Feb 5, Thomas and Grace sold 200 acres on Drowning Creek to Thomas Amis for L80 proclamation money. In the tax list of 1779, Thomas Senior was taxed on 500 acres of land, 13 slaves, 19 horses, 40 head of cattle, cash money of L2, and 3 tracts valued at L1190 for a total value of L4142. In May 1786, he bought 100 acres on Pine Log branch of Soles Swamp from the sheriff. In Dec 1786, Thomas witnessed a deed between Maurice Raiford and John Wingate. In Oct 1788, his ownership of the 200 acres on Drowning Creek was mentioned in a deed between John McKinnie and Samuel Leonard. The 1790 census for Bladen County includes 5 Mims households, 4 of them in the family: Thomas (Jr?), David, James, and Valentine. The other Mims in the county is Shadrack Mims, a cousin. Possibly Thomas Senior had died prior to 1790.
