James Mitchell

The information on the family is from at document at the Mount Pleasant Ohio Historical Society. The paper was written concerning the Reid Family - the family of James Mitchell's daughter Rachel Scott Mitchell who married William Reid.
James is said to be the son of George Mitchell and Elizabeth Porter, and grandson of John Mitchell & Grace Argiff. He was the 9th of eleven children.
James had a brief first marriage to Rachel. Scott was the only child of the first marriage. He is said to have died somewhere "in the West".
I did find a Scott Mitchell in Ohio in the 1840 Census. He was of approximately the right age - age 30-40 - and a single man. He was living in Berkshire Township, Delaware County, Ohio. This county is several counties west of Belmont County where his family lived - I can not be sure he is the right man. I did not find any person of that name of the right age after 1840.
James and his second wife Elizabeth moved from York Co, Pennsylvania to Belmont County, Ohio, prior to 1807.
James is buried Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery, near Martin's Ferry, Belmont County, Ohio.
