George Mitchell
(14 Nov 1734 - Bef 10 Apr 1816)
There is a book on the Mitchells family by Warren A. Brannon, Descendants of John Mitchell of Drumore Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Gateway Press Inc., Baltimore, 1991 - now out of print.
George inherited his land in Fawn Twp, York Co, from his father in 1767 - likely when his father obtained the land it was still part of Lancaster Co. Said to be 305 acres, called "Mitchell's Fancy". It is about 5 miles west of the Susquehanna River and about a mile noth of the Maryland state line.
Old NSDAR lineage book states that he enlisted in the 6th Battlion, York Co, PA militia, 1776, Col. William Ross, commanding. Says he was born in York Co, died Slate Ridge, PA.
