Individual Details

Joseph Anthony

(28 Mar 1750 - 2 Sep 1810)

Married Elizabeth "Betty" Clark ca 1777. Joseph Anthony and Elizabeth Clark were first cousins. Joseph's father had also married an Elizabeth Clark - this was a niece. The Wilkes Co records record her name as Betty and Betsy. Their son Joseph C. Anthony, also married a Betty/Betsy.

This Joseph has been seriously confused with the Rev. Joseph Anthony of Henry Co VA who married Jane Farris, daughter of Jacob Farris and Ruth Haden. They were two separate men.

Early Records of Georgia, two volumes, Grace Gillam Davidson, 1932
The following original will was never recorded in Wilkes Co., probably because of the caveat [legal action temporarily preventing the proving of a will or granting of administration of an estate] of Armisted Ellis Stokes, son-in-law of the testator. A certified copy of the original was obtained from a descendant, Mrs. Lucy L. Brooks, Historian Baron DeKalb Chapter D. A. R. of Decatur, Ga., the abstract of which follows:

the heirs of Mary Stokes personalty, having given her proportionate
part in her life time. Sons Anselm, Micajah and Jos. C. to share in

known as Clarke's Fishery, now in the name of Mark Anthony, and the
