William married Jane Hobbs probably about 1776. They had ten children, six of whom have been identified as Sarah, Joseph, Rachel, Elizabeth, Nancy & William. The family moved to Russell Co VA sometime between Feb 1787 and 1789. They were enumerated on the 1820 & 1830 Russell Co census. Jane appears to be on the 1840 census, with her son William as head of household.

When he testified for his brother Robert's pension application in 1832, he claimed to be age 78, born 1754. William served with his brothers, Robert & Uriah in Capt. John Fountleroy's Company, 28th Battalion, Maryland Militia.
