Robert Pippin

Robert married (1) Margaret Reynolds on 2 Nov 1779 in Caroline Co Maryland. Their children were Henry, Joseph, Robert, Nancy, Richard, Wesley, Leslie, Zachariah, and Benjamin. The two youngest were born after the family moved to Russell Co VA. Margaret died between 1808 and 1820 in Russell Co VA. He married (2) Micah Bedwell [the widow Johnston] on 16 Jun 1830 in Washington Co, VA. They had one child, Martha A. "Patsy" Pippin.

Robert was a Revolutionary War soldier and applied for his pension. He served with his brothers William & Uriah in Capt John Fountleroy's Company, 28th Battalion, Maryland Militia. Healso served in Capt. Hazlerigg's & Capt. Jackson's Companies and he participated in the Battle of Brandywine. He is listed as a participant at the Battle of Kings Mountain on 7 Oct 1780 by Bobby Gilmer Moss in his book THE PATRIOTS AT KINGS MOUNTAIN. Robert did not mention this battle in his pension application. He was still living in Caroline Co MD in the 1790 Census and this service is erroneous.

Robert made his pension application, #W8519, in Washington Co VA on 17 Nov 1832. He stated he had resided in Washington Co and the adjoining county of Russell for the last 35-40 years and that he was 80 years old [b. 1752] He was raised in the county of Caroline in Maryland. Robert served one month in the service as a militia man under Capt. John Fontleroy at Cooks Point & Cambridge. Three months before the battle of Brandywine he was drafted and marched under Capt Hazlerigg and joined the Regt of Col. Guist; afterwards joined Genl. Smallwood at the brick meeting house near Brandywine. Marched to Dowingstown, then to the sign of the white horse near Philadelphia where under the command of Genl. Wayne we had an engagement, they attacking in the night & killing & wounded many of us. Marched from there to Brandywine under Genls. Wayne & Smallwood and was in the Battle of Brandywine, Genl. Washington commanding. Was honorably discharged by Col. Guist at Christiana. Went home for three months and then called out again for another three months under Capt Jackson.; joined the Regt commanded by Col. Staunton and march to Newark and remained there until discharged. Robert's brother William made a statement on 7 Nov 1832 to support Robert's application. He was in Russell Co VA and stated his age as 78. He made oath that his brother Robert Pippin was in the service of the Revolutionary War for seven months.

Robert's unrecorded will:
I Robert Pepin of the county of Washington County in the State of Virginia being of sound mind and deposing memory do make this my last Will and testament in the following manner - I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my estate - I give and bequeath to my daughter Patsy Roberts one dollar - I give and bequeath to my beloved wife all the remaining part of my Estate of which I may be possessed at the time of my death to her and her heirs forever.
I hereby appoint James Johnston the son of my wife by a former husband, Executor of this my last Will and testament. In Witness whereof I have here unto subscribed my name this twenty eighth day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred & forty.

Robert died five years later 26 Jan 1845 in Washington Co VA. His wife Micah died 24 Dec 1855 in the same place.
