Creed Tanner

(1765 - 16 Jul 1827)



Creed Tanner is said to have been headed to Kentucky but stopped in Pittsylvania County for one night and remained forever. His estate at the head of Birch Creek was named "Kentucky". He is also said to have changed the name of the early Baptist church called "Head of Birch Creek Church" to "Kentuck Baptist Church".

William & Presley William, defendants. 20 Aug 1806, Cook, Flipping & Tanner were commissioners to carry out the decree and expose to sale 63 acres on Burches Creek. Francis Cornwell was highest bidder.

Creed Tanner's will is dated 16 Jul 1827. His wife Elizabeth also left a will dated 16 Oct 1848.
