Two grandchildren, Betsy Rains Tanner and Bird Lewis Tanner, were named in the will of their grandfather Mattew Tanner.
There was a Floyd Tanner, apparently not connected to this family, present in Pittsylvania Co - some have placed him as the husband of Elizabeth Motley with sons Joseph Motley, Joel & Asa Tanner as named in the will of Joseph Motley [Joseph did not give these grandchildren a mother's name and there is great confusion and speculation about her identification.]
