AMBROSE WILLIAMS

(1730 - )

Ambrose said to have been Welch and a millwright. Married Mary Moor in North Carolina. He married a second time after the death of Mary Moor to Jane Inman by whom he had several more children. He lived in North Carolina before and during the Revolution and had several sons old enough to serve. Said to be a designated a Revolutionary War Patriot by the DAR. Ambrose had children by his second marriage but they were not named.

I have checked the DAR Patriot database. There is no Ambrose Williams from North Carolina. There was such a man in Massachusetts. And there was an Ambrose Williams who signed the Oath of Allegiance in 1779 in Southampton County, VA. His wife was Esther Macy and all those who have joined DAR have done so through a son named Nicholas. It is obvious nether of these is this Ambrose Williams.

Interestingly there is a Hardin Williams who served in the Revolution from North Carolina - he received a pension, Sullivan Co NC. He was a spy. His wife was Jane Hart. A son Pleasant and daughter Polly are the children who are represented by DAR members. Again, this is a different family.

Ages of the proposed children of Ambrose Williams are estimates at best. Son Robert was born in 1770 and his father was probably already about age 40 so he wasn't likely the eldest.

An Ambrose Williams is in the 1790 census - but in Greenville, South Carolina. He had 2 white males under 16, 2 white males 16 and over and 2 females, in his household.
