David Caldwell
(1786 - 1833)
In MEN WHOM I REMEMBER, George Blakey either confuses the names David and Daniel, or the typesetter did. David was the businessman along with his brother Andrew; Daniel was a physician. David died of cholera while returning from a trip to New Orleans to sell tobacco; died at Smithland, KY. Blakey stated he was 47 years of age when he died, but this may be incorrect as there is evidence of a child born slightly later.

p.74 Jun 1810 Abraham Johnson, age 17 on Dec next, bound out to Andrew & David Caldwell to learn the saddler's trade.
Logan Co KY Order Book 6 [Nov 1813 - Sep 1817]
p.144 John Trice, aged 15 on 30 Mar last, appreticed to David Caldwell, saddler.
David Caldwell's Will. Property to be divided equally between wife and children after debts are paid. Tanning yard to be kept for benefit of family for at least 5 or 6 years. Dated 28 Mar 1833. Exec: Andrew Caldwell, M. B. Morton. Probate was 3 Jun 1833.

In a suit, Floyd vs. Caldwell, filed 16 Apr 1834, to collect for land bought by Caldwell, the following are listed as his heirs: Louisa A. Caldwell, widow. Infants sons and daughters: Isabella, Randolph, Eugene, and Elizabeth. [Isabella & Eugene both died of cholera on 31 July 1835; Elizabeth died in 1837. Only Randolph survived.]
