Individual Details

Anne FOX

(20 Jun 1684 - 4 May 1735)

Anne married Thomas Claiborne about 1703. Her birth and death dates said to be taken from her tombstone at Sweet Hall in King William Co. Thomas was a 1st cousin of the Mary Claiborne who married Anne's brother Henry.

At Sweet Hall:
"Here lies the body of Mrs. Ann Claiborn late wife of Capt. Thomas Claiborne, and daughter of Mr. Henry Fox. Born 20th day of Jun 1684. She departed this life 8th day of May 1735. Age 49 years, 10 months and 7 days.

The DuVal book gave slightly a different death dates for Anne. Gave birth as 20 Jun 1684 and death as 8 May 1733.
A date calculator says that if she died on May 8th of 1735 and was the age given, she was born 1 Jul 1685.

CAVALIERS, Vol 3, p.249 Capt Thomas Claiborne, grant of 1800 acres called "Sweet Hall" in King William Co, St. John's Parish, N side of Pamunkey River. 5 Sep 1723. PB 11, p.230. Adj Capt William Claiborne, to Thomas Claiborne Junr on E side head of Middle Creek, to Capt Thomas Claiborne's landing at "Sweet Hall". 800 acres part being surplus within bounds of a deed from Capt Wm Claiborne to Capt Thomas Claiborne for 1000 acres on 12 Mar 1701. Found within bounds of deed of gift made by Col. William Claiborne, Sect of State, to his son Thomas, father of the abovenamed Thomas on 20 Jun 1673 for 1200 acres. Part of the Grand Patent of 5000 acres granted sd Col. Clayborne, Secty., 1 Sep 1659.

Here's a bit more about the Thomas Claiborne Jr of the above deed - he is definitely a different Thomas:
p.248 Frances Littlepage, widow of New Kent. 725 acres in King Wm Co, St. John's Par, below Cohoke Crk, bet land of Mr. Thomas Clayborn, Junr, called "Cahoke" & Pamunkey River on the N side. adj. Richard Howel's Landing & Thomas Clayborne Junr, son of John Claiborne, dec'd. 5 Sep 1723. PB 11, p.229
and another about the Thomas Claiborne of "Sweet Hall" which places him earlier in New Kent Co
p.39 To Gideon Macon, Gent. 545 acres in New Kent Co in a fork of the Chickahominy R where the swamp ends. 7 Nov 1700, PB 9, p.289. Granted to Wm Clayborne, son of Col. Wm Clayborne Junr, dec'd & Thomas Clayburne, son & heir apparent of Mr. Thomas Clayburne on 20 Apr 1682. Deserted & now granted. Import of 11 persons.

I would suppose that Col William Claiborne, Sect of State, had three sons, William Jr, Thomas & John, now deceased. The above deeds refer to his grandsons. William, son of Wm Jr, Thomas son of Thomas, and Thomas [called Jr because he's younger than his cousin] son of John.
