Married Agnes Wilson, daughter of Peter & Alcey Wilson.
In 1752, Peter was a Vestryman for Antrim Parish in Halifax Co VA; he later served in the same capacity for Camden Parish after Pittsylvania Co was formed out of Halifax.

Lt. Col. Peter Perkins was head of the Pittsylvania Co Militia during the Revolutionary War. His home was on the land of his father, overlooking the Dan River. He was a member of the House of Virginia in 1774 and the Conventions of 1774 and 1775.
