Mary Stamps

Married (1) James Allen, son of William Allen. James died prior to 1761. Mary next married James B. Shackleford, son of John and Ann Lyne Shackleford as his second wife. Shackleford died about 1800; his estate probated in Mason Co, 14 Mar 1808.

Her father Thomas Stamps, actually wrote out two wills that survive. In the first dated 28 Nov 1756, he gave to daughter Mary Allen, a sum to be paid by the executors. In the second will, dated 28 Jul 1761, He stated if his daughter May Shackleford should die without any more children, her share was to be divided between the two children she had by James Allen.

William STAMPS and Ann STAMPS deed to James SHACKELFORD of Hamilton Parish, Prince William Co., VA, 631 acres on Walnut Branch of Cedar Run, Fauquier Co., VA, granted to Thomas STAMPS, who willed it to William STAMPS. Wits. Joseph and Thomas SMITH. 1765 moved to the Walnut Branch of Cedar Run, Fauquier Co., VA.
Note: William Stamps was her brother.

1812, 21 Nov: Lewis BULLOCK, commissioner appointed by Mason Co., KY circuit court in a suit wherein James SHACKLEFORD, George SHACKLEFORD, William SHACKLEFORD, Edmund SHACKLEFORD, Thomas SHACKLEFORD, Amy PARKER, John METCALF and Amelia his wife, Christopher METCALF and Sarah his wife, George GRANT and Mary his wife, as heirs of James SHACKLEFORD dec'd were Complainants, and Henry LEE of Virginia was Defendant. Whereas James SHACKLEFORD had in his lifetime obtained from Henry LEE a bond for the conveyance of 2000 acres of land out of his tract of 4000 acres, lying on the north fork of Licking, and had paid to LEE the full consideration and had taken possession of it. But LEE neglected to convey title to it. He died intestate, leaving heirs to whom descended the interest in it, who entered suit for title. Now conveyance of same by Lewis BULLOCK, commissioner. Being part of a tract of 3102 1/2 acres Patented to Henry LEE on 12 Dec 1800 upon a Survey executed on 25 Mar 1784. Bounded by Benjamin NEAL's tract of 1000 acres and McDERMID's Preemption containing 1920 acres. Clerk: John R. BULLOCK.

1814, 19 Feb: James SHACKELFORD, George SHACKELFORD, William SHACKELFORD, Edmond SHACKELFORD, Thomas SHACKELFORD, Amy PARKER, John METCALFE, Amelia METCALFE, Christopher METCALFE, Sarah METCALFE, George GRANT and Mary GRANT signed a notice printed 8 Mar 1814 in "The Union," a newspaper of Washington, Mason Co., KY: "Messrs. John FARROW, Nimrod FARROW and other children and representatives of George FARROW dec'd, whose names are unknown, Take Notice, That on Tuesday, the 5th day of April next, between the hours of ten in the morning and four in the afternoon, at the House of Baldwin B. STITH, in the town of Washington, in the County of Mason and State of Kentucky. We will commence taking depositions, to be read as evidence on the hearing of a suit in Chancery now depending in the Mason Circuit Court, in which we are complainants, and you and Archibald JOHNSTON are defendants. We will continue from day to day until the business is completed."
