Deed Book ii, p.381
12 Mar 1857 Philip H. Thomas, guardian of Junius F. Thomas to Price N. Thomas of Caswell to receive from estate of Nathaniel Thomas dec'd.

P. H. Thomas was in the 1850 Dallas Co AR Census. Occupation: Farmer. By 1860, Phillip was listed as a Merchant with real property value of $9250 & personal property of $41,500. His younger brother Junius lived with the family; his occupation given as Clerk. A. J. Rounsaville, a 24 year old lady, also lived with them - possibly a younger sister of Philip's wife, Mary Rounsaville George W. Taylor, age 35, merchant, born in Alabama also lived with the Thomas family - probably a business partner.

1860 Census. Princeton, Dallas, AR, Hh 691
Phillip H. Thomas, 33, Merchant, Value of real estate $9250, Value of personal property $41,500, b. NC
Mary E., 33, b. NC
children all b. AR: Emerline, 10. Henry R., 8. Phillip H., 7. Mary E., 4. C. A., age 1, male
Junius I., age 18, clerk, personal property $13,000, b. NC
A. J. Rounsaville, 24, b. NC (female)
Geo. W. Taylor, 35, Merchant, real estate $13,720; pers prop, $57,500, b. AL

The Slave Schedule for 1860 actually shows Junius with more slaves (total of 11) than his older brother - I wonder if this might have been a tax advantage. Or perhaps much of Phillip's personal property was for his merchandise. Geo. Taylor had no slaves listed so certainly his property was merchandise.

1870, still in Dallas Co. Philip was 42, a Drygoods Merchant. Mary E. age 42, Rebecca C age 19, Henry R. age 17, clerk in store, Phillip 15, Mary 14, Charly 11, Ida 8, and Fannie 2.
