Individual Details

Gabriel said to have died at the age of 41 years. Grave stone said to be very dim and indicates he was born in 1781 and died in 1822 [but that is the year he married]. It's doubful he was born in 1781 since another record shows his sister Rebecca born in July of 1781. But then his death would have occurred in 1832 if he was 41. The above deed seems to indicate that both Gabriel & his wife were still living in April of 1840 and the census confirms this fact. I believe the stone has been misread.

Gabriel J. Morton and WIFE Winifred B. sold the property he inherited from his father on the waters of the Gasper River to Joseph Toler for $700 on 16 Dec 1823. Deed Book N, p.2.

p.122 10 Apr 1840 Gabriel J. Morton & Winefred B. Morton his wife to Daniel S. Dunscomb. On 11 Feb 1832, Gabriel J. Morton gave to George W. Morton receipt & title bond. Rec'd of G. W. Morton, at different times $710.50 the amount in full of my lot known by it s No.10 in the plat & division of our father's lands among his children which obligated myself to convey to Geroge W. Morton or his heirs by deed when demanded. Given under my hand 11 Feb 1832. The said George W. Morton has sold the said lot of land to Dunscomb and requests that Gabriel J. Morton shall make this conveyance. Doth now bargain & sell lot #10 in division of landed estate of William J. Morton, dec'd which was on the 5 May 1823 conveyed to the sd Gabriel J. Morton by Samuel Wilson & Benjamin Temple, commissioners acting under decree of Logan Circuit Court. DB M, p.9 & 10. 111 acres. Signed: Gabl. J. Morton, Winefred B.
