There are two earlier marriages in Bartholomew Co IN.
Nathaniel Owens married Frances Turner on 24 Dec 1822. She died about 1826, born 1805 - and is buried Flatrock Baptist Cemetery, Clifford, Batholemew Co, IN. Stated on the stone is "Wife of Nathaniel Owens" - died in the 21st year of her age. No dates on the stone.
Nathaniel Owens married Susannah Ross on 31 Jun 1827 - this is a non-existent date, perhaps it should have been transcribed as 31 Jan. There is a stone in Flatrock Cemetery for Susan P. Owens, consort of Nathaniel Owens who died 22 May 1843, aged 37 years, 6 months, 6 days. FindAGrave entries states she was Susan Bass, daughter of Nathan & Ruhama (Price) Bass. If so she had a marriage to a Ross (or the marriage was transcribed incorrectly)

The 1850 census indicates several children born before Nathaniel married Sarah Wishard Hill in February of 1844. They are of an age to have been children of Susannah Ross and I have placed them there - details were found on FindAGrave as most are buried in the same cemetery.

Elrey Cole age 21, lived with the family.
The young Nathaniel is the child of an earlier marriage of his father's.

McKinney, William, age 44, Works on farm. b. Ohio as were his parents
Owens, George W. age 15, Nephew, Works on farm. b. IN as were both parents.

Mr. Nat Owens, of Flatrock township, died last night at ten o'clock at the age of seventy-five. funeral services tomorrow at 2 o'clock. Interment at Flatrock Cemetery.

Buried Flatrock Baptist Cemetery, Bartholomew Co. IN. died 19 Feb 1885, age 84 years 2 months, 24 days.
