Eugene S. Hays Dies Suddenly
Heart Attack Fatal to Postal Employee
Eugene S. Hays, 51, McAlester postal employee, died suddenly at 10:30 o'clock Monday night following a heart attack at his home at 305 East Creek Avenue.
He was born Sept. 17, 1898 in Van Buren, Ark. He was married Nov. 22 1926 to Miss Mary Belle Crowell at Sallisaw.
Following their marriage, Mr & Mrs. Hays moved to McAlester.
Mr. Hays entered the postal service oct. 24, 1942 and was employed as a clerk in the McAlester post office. Prior to going into postal work, he associated with the Texas Company here.
He was member of the board of the First Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Shriners. He was a 32nd degree Mason and held membership in the Indian Consistory here.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his mother, Mrs. W. H. Hays, Van Buren, Ark.; a daughter, Mrs. Marcelle Bootes, Oklahoma city; eight brothers, Donald Hays with the US Navy in the Panama Canal Zone, John Hays of College Station, Tex., Paul Hays, W. E. Hays, and Earl Hays, all of Van Buren, and Russell Hays, Hadley Hays and Archie Hays, all of Blytheville, Ark.; four sisters, Mrs. James Kilgore, Mrs. Charles Vine, and Mrs. Edwin Defenbaugh, all of Van Buren, and Mrs. Woodrow Slaven of Tulsa; and one granddaughter, Marcie Ray Bootes, Oklahoma City.
His son Eugene Hays, Jr., preceded him in dauth Aug. 11.
