Homer DeForest Kirkpatrick was the youngest of Frank Leslie Kirkpatrick's four sons, and was born 23 June 1908 at Rewey, Wisconsin. He died 19 May 1973 at La Grande, Union County, Oregon. He is buried at Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado, in a cemetery which has a portion dedicated to members of the Typographical Union, of which Homer Kirkpatrick was a member. Homer married Irene Cornelia Hayes in 1936, in Austin, Mower County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John J. and Selma (Nelson) Hayes and was born 14 February 1912, in Moscow Township, Mower County, Minnesota. Her father, John J. Hayes was also born in Moscow Township, 17 August 1884. Her mother was the daughter of Chris and Julia Nelson of Oakland, Freeborn County, Minnesota. John J. Hayes died 18 September 1965 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Oakland, Minnesota. Mrs. Selma Hayes died in June of 1914 and is buried at Red Oak Grove Cemetery, Corning, Freeborn County, Minnesota.

Homer Kirkpatrick became a typesetter with the Austin 'Daily Herald' and worked for that paper a good many years before removing with his family to La Grande, Oregon, to work on the 'Observer' in that city. He contracted a lingering illness which put him in the Typographers medical facility at Colorado Springs, Colorado, a number of times. He succumbed at La Grande in 1973.

Homer appears on the 1930 U. S. Census of Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa with his brother Clair and their mother. Homer's occupation is printer.

Austin Daily Herald, Austin, Minnesota, Wednesday, May 23, 1973, Page 2, Col. 1: Homer DeForrest Kirkpatrick, 64, died Saturday at his home, 119 Highway Ave., LaGrande, Ore., after a short illness. He was a former Austin resident and linotype operator for the Austin Daily Herald. He was a retired employee of the LaGrande Evening Observer. Surviving are his wife, Irene; a son, John C. Kirkpatrick, LaGrande; two daughters, Mrs. Pat (Ruth) Elgin, Pendleton, Ore., Mrs. Carol Veach, Los Angeles. Funeral services were held today at LaGrande.
