Elmer Frederick Kirkpatrick

Elmer Frederick Kirkpatrick was the second son of Frank Leslie and Minnie Kirkpatrick and was originally christened Almer but he changed his name to Elmer. He was born 6 March 1897 at Rewey, Iowa County, Wisconsin. He died 15 October 1945 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He married Ruby L. McCarthy, daughter of John and Stella (Potter) McCarthy, at Austin in Mower County, Minnesota, 22 February 1922. Ruby was born 7 August 1896 at Kellogg in Wabasha County, Minnesota. She died in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, 2 January 1968. She is buried at Sunset Memorial Park, St. Anthony Village, Minnesota. Elmer is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Mower County, Minnesota. The couple had been estranged for a number of years prior to Elmer's death.
E. F. Kirkpatrick served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War I. He enlisted in July of 1918 and was sent to Parris Island, South Carolina, for training. He was discharged 7 February 1919 at Marine Barracks, Quantico, Virginia. His service was within the United States. He was a private (serial no. 129245).
Kirkpatrick went to work as a lineman for the Tri-State Telephone and Telegraph Company. While working on a pole in the 1920's a car managed to bring the pole down, injuring Kirkpatrick seriously. He survived the accident but was lame the rest of his life. Tri-State was eventually absorbed by Northwestern Bell (a component of AT&T). He worked for that company until 1945 when he departed unaccountably for Chicago where he died under tragic circumstances.
There were two children born of the marriage.
