Gideon was a graduate of Horton Academy and Acadia University with a BA Th and a BD in 1940. He served summer fields at Moser's River NS, Grangeville NB, McKees Mills NB. His full-time pastorates included Tracy Mills NB, Hansport-Falmouth NS, St. George NB, Edith Avenue Baptist Church St John NB, and Paradise-Clarence NS. Following retirement he did interim pastoral work. He was pastor emeritus of Lawrencetown United Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener and sportsman. During WWII he trained as air crew with the RCAF, and after a medical discharge worked with the YMCA Auxiliary War Services. He served on the Board of Western Missons, the social sevices board, and the home misson board of the Atlantic Baptist Convention. He was active in many social service organizations, as well as serving on the Board of Governors of Acadia University, the board of trustees of Acadia Divinity College. He was a governor of the New Brunswick district of the Canadian Bible Society. He served as secretary of the New Brunswick Protestant Ministerial Association, the extension committee of the Atlantic Baptist Convention, the Lord's Day Alliance for New Brunswick, and the Maritime Religious Education Council. He was past lecturer and chaplain of the New Brunswick Loyal Orange Lodge, district deputy grand master of the Annapolis-Digby district of the Masonic Lodge, and member of Evangeline Masonic Lodge 94.
