WALTER CARDWELL COREY
(13 Sep 1896 - 8 Aug 1918)
In his young days, Walter attended a cheese making course in Sussex NB, Then opened a cheese factory in New Canaan, but this did not flourish. Blois Corey explains that the farmers did not want to commit their milk to the factory on the fear that someone else might make money from their milk. The result was that the women had to make butter with the produce by hand, a very labor-intensive chore, which did not please the wives! Walter joined the Canadian Army in 1916, and was killed in action at Amiens on 8 Aug 1918. His name is on the cenotaph at New Canaan. [Blois Corey] [Corey Book]
