Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 3 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich for Odillo Hoppe who died Monday, August 31 at his home in New Munich after a courageous battle with cancer. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Odillo N. Hoppe was born February 18, 1925 in New Munich, Minnesota to Gerard and Rosina (Moscho) Hoppe. On October 5, 1948 he was united in marriage to Margaret Rausch at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Farming. They started farming north of New Munich after their marriage and later moved to Westport, Minnesota for about a year. They then moved back to New Munich to a farm south of town where they operated their hog and dairy cattle farm. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, Lions Club, and St. Josephs Mens Society. Dillo enjoyed fishing, going to casinos, and was an avid bowler at one time. After retirement, he played many card games including Sheephead, Skat, Solo, Smear, and 500.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hoppe of New Munich; children, Gerald (Diane) Hoppe of St. Cloud, Karen (Vern) Heinen of Albany, Marvin Hoppe of New Munich, Steven (Robin) Hoppe of Melrose, and Linda (Neil) Dierkhising of St. Cloud; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Hoppe of New Munich; and daughter-in-law, Mary Hoppe of Melrose.
Dillo was preceded in death by his parents; children, Alvin Hoppe in 2002, and Lou Ann Hoppe in 1973; brothers, Benedict, Nick, and Jerome Hoppe; and sisters, Agnes Wagner and Emma Loecken.
