Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for Benedict Hoppe, 81, who died Sunday at Pine Haven Care Center, Melrose. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 tonight and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose.
St. Joseph's Society and Catholic Order of Foresters will pray at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home in Melrose, followed by parish prayers at 8.
Benedict Hoppe was born in St. Martin Township, Stearns County, to Gerhard and Rosina (Moscho) Hoppe. He studied agriculture at Morris Vocational School for one year. He married Lorraine Eickhoff on June 23, 1941, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich. The couple farmed near New Munich until their retirement in 1986, when they moved to New Munich. He was a resident of Pine Haven Care Center since October of 1998. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, town supervisor of Oak Township, Stearns County, for 12 years, and was a member of Catholic Order of Foresters, the ushering committee for many years, St. Joseph's Society, and a past member of New Munich Lions.
Survivors include his wife; children, Carol DeMorett of Lindstrom, Gerri Halfman of Duelm, Diane Tamm of Little Falls, Donna Bauer and Allan of Paynesville, and John of Champlin; brothers, Odillo and Eugene of New Munich; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his children, Francis and Donald; brother and sisters, Nick, Agnes Wagner and Emma Loecken; and three grandchildren.
