Individual Details
Frances Funk
(24 Feb 1781 - 1845)
"Fanny's" father, Henry Funk, was the son of Heinrich Funck. Heinrich was the first Mennonite Bishop in what became the United States. He emigrated from Germany to Philadelphia with his best friend, Dielman Kolb, (Culp) Jr., arriving on 10 August 1717. It is believed that the families of Henry and another descendant of Dielman Kolb, Sr., migrated to Rockingham Co., Virginia, together in 1786. Fanny lived with her son, Jacob, after Henry's death, and passed away unexpectedly while visiting relatives in Fairfield Co., Ohio. This author believes she is buried in the Sugar Tree Hill Cemetery near Rushcreek Township, where she had relatives on both sides of her family. Most of the tombstones are too weathered to read, but I found the graves of a brother, a grandchild, a nephew, and another Funk of unknown relationship in that cemetery. This cemetery is also known as the Brenneman/Funk Cemetery.
