EXETER, Jan. 7 - Miss Irene Ireland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Cain of Exeter, became the bride of Carlton Fleming, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Fleming of Woodville in a late December wedding at the Methodist parsonage in Lincoln. The Rev. George Budd, pastor, performed the double ring ceremony. The bride wore a grey suit with black accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hurd, sister and brother-in-law of the bridegroom, attended the couple. Mr. Fleming is employed at the Eastern Corporation mill in Lincoln. The couple will live in Lincoln.Obituary
EAST NEWPORT and LINCOLN - Irene Fleming, 79, died peacefully, of a brief illness Nov. 23, 2001, at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by her immediate family. She was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Kenduskeag, the daughter of Byron and Nellie (Hasey) Cain. Irene worked in several area hospitals and nursing homes over a 20 year period, was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, most recently, Post 93 in Corinna and did extensive community volunteer work, up to the time she became ill. She was also noted for her laughter, creative knitting and crocheting. Irene will be fondly remembered as the matriarch that provided the glue and courage to lead a large extended family. She is survived by her husband, Carlton, of East Newport; her son, Carlton Jr. of East Newport; her daughters, Elsie Spencer of Passadumkeag, and Marie Hernandez of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sons, Daryl of Alpharetta, Ga., and Terry of Northglenn, Colo.; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to visit the family at Clay Funeral Home in Lincoln, 2-4 or 7-9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26. A funeral service will be held at Clay Funeral Home, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, with the Rev. Barry Seymour, officiating. Burial will be at Lincoln Cemetery immediately following. Friends are also invited to visit with the family at their residence on the Stetson Road in East Newport, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27.
