Obituary
Many friends will regret to learn of the death of John Edward McCarthy, 36, of this city, which occurred yesterday, in, Washington D. C., where he had gone two weeks ago for hospital treatment. He had been ill several months. Mr. McCarthy was a native and lifelong resident of Bangor and was educated in the local schools, graduating from Bangor High School. He had been in charge of the surplus commodities program here. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ida S. McCarthy of Bangor; one brother, William J. McCarthy of Washington, D. C.; four aunts, Mrs. Louis Thebeau of Bangor, Mrs. Fred Lowell of Washington , D. C., Mrs. Charles Peterson of Green Lake, and Mrs. Belle Lavoie of Somerville, Mass.; and two uncles, W. J. Sweeney of Bangor and Cornelius McCarthy of Old Town. The remains will be brought to Bangor and will be taken to the home of his aunt, Mrs. Louis Thebeau, 106 Fern street. Funeral services for John McCarthy will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock at St. John's Catholic church.Funeral Notice
Funeral services for John E. McCarthy were held in St. John's Catholic church Friday morning at 9 o'clock, the Right Rev. Monsignor Thomas J. Nelligan, P. R., officiating. In the sanctuary was the Rev. James H. Keegan of Lewiston. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends, and many beautiful flowers. Bearers were Cornelius J. Russell, Jr., James P. O'Loughlin, Carr F. McGinnis, James P. Cushing, Ralph L. Jordan and William T. Conners. Interment was in Mount Pleasant cemetery.Endnotes
