Military
William was in Company "B" of the 5th North Carolina Senior Reserves. He enlisted on July 13, 1864 at Flint Hill, Ashe Co., NC. He was a farmer in Ashe County at the time of his enlistment. He was described as 5'9" with a light complexion and hair, and blue eyes. He was also shown in 97th NC Militia. He received a medical examination on 10/20/64 and diagnosed as suffering from chronic ulcer of leg.Endnotes
