Moved to Douglas county, Oregon, where he married in 1860 and settled down, working at his trade until 1871, when he sold out and moved with his family to the territory of Washington, settling on Rock creek, Whitman county, where he resided till the year of 1876. He moved to Dayton the same year and has lived here ever since.

During his residence in Oregon he became acquainted with Henry Gale, with whom he formed a co-partnership in 1878 and began the publication of the Columbia Chronicle. Mr. Gale was editor and Mr. May business manager.
